Basic Invite - Wedding Planning 101

Customizing your wedding invitations, rsvp cards and menus.

Yay - you're engaged. The first thing you do (after shouting it from the top of the roof and tell all your friends and family of course!) is to go on Pinterest and start looking for ideas. Maybe you already have a Pinterest board for your dream wedding. Filled with beautiful images from other peoples wedding. The color theme you want for your own wedding. But yet, maybe those weddings are way outside of your budget. So you start wondering how you could still get that dream wedding without breaking the bank.

Our Wedding Planning 101 series is here to help you, and first we will be talking about the wedding suite. Something that most people pay little attention to, but something that's still a huge part of your wedding planning. Because without the right wedding stationary you're guests don't know what to expect.

These are the most common components of your wedding suite

  • Save the date cards
The first thing your guests will see is your Save the Date Cards letting them know when and where the wedding is taking place. This way they can mark their calendars and ensure they are free for your special day. These are usually sent 4-6 months out (longer for destination weddings).

  • Wedding Invitation
The formal invitation is sent out approximately 8-12 weeks out from your wedding day. The invitation suite usually consists of your wedding information including ceremony & reception location as well as date and times. You also include a RSVP card for guests to let you know if they're coming or not. Details about accommodations and transportation is also included if applicable.

  • Day of Information
For your actual wedding day you'll need a ceremony program, place cards for your dinner seating and menus so people know what they're eating.

  • After the wedding
The last piece you need is your Thank You cards. Tell your guests how much you appreciate them being present and celebrating your special day. Write a little note about any gifts they may have brought with them. And share an image from your wedding photographer so they can relive the day with you.
